The ultimate wrap skirt is a pattern I made several times by now and I love each version. It is a timeless simple pattern, a great base for hacks but works great as is as well. Very simple silhouette that is also simple to construct. A perfect combo šŸ™‚ It is a free sewing pattern but you can leave a donation to Peppermint magazine to support their patterns initiative.Ā

Pattern Name: Wrap Skirt

Pattern company: In the Folds for Peppermint magazine

Size: CĀ

Personal highlights: Free sewing pattern, easy and quick sew, great base for hacking

I made this version out of blue and white cotton gingham fabric that is perfect for summer. The fabric is light but stiff so holds shape just right for the ruffle. The pattern comes in longer length but for this I shortened it a lot. I measured roughly the length for the straight skirt depending on where I wanted it to hit and added additional 1 cm for seam allowance. Then I cut out the ruffle which is 1.5x longer in width than the skirt bottom edge. The ruffle height was determined by fabric amount I had on hand and it worked out perfectly. I think a bigger ruffle hitting bellow the knee would also look good! There are so many options of how this simple pattern can be hacked into a unique skirt.Ā  I made a similar one that is mid length and I will post about it soon too.

The pattern calls for a buttonhole in the waistband which helps to keep the wrapped waistband in place. The idea is to thread the tie through it when wrapping it around. I, of course, skipped it. In theory it is not necessary for the final garment but the waist tie does move about more when it is not secured in place so I think I will go back and add it in and I would recommend you do the same. Don’t be lazy like me and do things properly šŸ™‚ Ā  Ā  Ā

There are darts for shaping the waist which helps with the fit. The edges are finished with a double fold, easy and clean. The instructions are good and easy to follow.

I really like this pattern and would recommend it as a simple one to cut out, sew and wear. Great for beginners but also a fun sew for more experienced sewers looking for a quick and simple summer skirt pattern. I already made it three times and will definitely be making it again. Can recommend 10/10.
